2009 WORLD TOUR

What People Say  by Trevor Dutton

I must say that I was impressed by what I saw on and off the track from the Salisbury riders, they showed that they were serious about their sport of Cycle Speedway. The comments I heard from International Riders Officials and Visitors regarding these riders was very pleasing indeed, the first six place getters in the Junior World Individual Championship were Australian and three were from the Salisbury Club. Four Salisbury riders made the final and performed very well after a greulling tour with Test Matches, World Cups, World Club events etc. before the Individual Finals.

We can talk about the one bad race in each Individual Final ( Junior & Senior ) that kept Cody Chadwick from full filling his dream, but we will talk about the run off for fourth in the Junior individual between Cody and Joel ( Chadwick ) and why after winning the toss Cody chose grid 4 and the reason behind it. I spoke to Cody about it and to be honest I'm still not sure of his reasoning. ( but we all will have our view ).

Cody was elated to take second in the Senior World individual and was proud of the Australian Riders especially the Salisbury riders, " they rode the best I have seen , well above what most people would expect " Cody told me on the farewell night. Cody was still on a high that night but he didn't want to talk much about himself but other Club mates praising Dean Jolly, Daniel Bax , Joel and others for the way they rode. He praised the Great Britain Juniors for their ability and friendship, for the new and old friends in the sport and the desire to travel over sea to compete whether it is USA or England he wants to be part of it.

The praise from all to the Salisbury Club was very high and as a member I proud to hear this and the Committee and members who worked so hard must be congratulated on their presentation of the Club To all the Salisbury riders thank you for some great racing moments in this tour.

TWELVE YEAR OLD NICOLE SCOOPS WOMEN'S OPEN INTERNATIONAL

Top effort by Nicole Kinross in taking out the Women's Open International which was ran on a 12 person formula with a sudden death final due to the uneven set up of a 12 person formula. But let's not take anything away from this very popular happy go lucky Cycle speedway rider who consistancely performs through out the Australian racing season. I didn't see to race due to personal commitments but I was extremely happy for Nicole and the Kinross family.

Junior Test Match No.3 Australia vs Great Britain at Salisbury

Salisbury's' Turn By Trevor Dutton

First up Findon then LeFevre and now Salisbury's' turn to hold the Test Matches for the Salisbury Committee and the majority of its' member this was their first International, well first up congratulations to all involved with a well run and presented meet. The Aussie Juniors out performed the young Lions and to be honest the depth and consistency of the Aussies showed on the day, but having said that the young Lions are improving but just can't put it together as a Team. So for these GB riders my interest will be in the Individuals but I'm not writing them off in the World Cup .The last word regarding the Great Britain Junior riders I'll leave to Cody Chadwick ( Aussie Junior Captain ) When I said that the GB Junior riders were not up to the Aussie Juniors he said " They are as good as us but they need balls" meaning they need to back themselves, see a gap and go for it , back their ability go for it without hesitation, do not be intimidated, dare to win ( Aussies 3 GB 0 after three Tests )

Senior Test Match No.3 Australia vs Great Britain at Salisbury

Three Nil by Trevor Dutton

Best out three, three nil not what the Great Britain Senior Squad and Officials thought went they left  England and arriving on in Australia, and to be honest not what I thought also. In the first Test the Aussies rode five Juniors, the Second Test they rode five and in the third Test they rode four Juniors and over the three Tests six Juniors were used. You can use the excuse of bad and or bias refereeing but when some GB Senior riders go out on the town the night before and are slightly worse for wear the next day then the GB Officials  need to ask questions. All I heard all day was bad / crap/ bias refereeing and bad Team Managing nothing about riders falling off by themselves , not handling the conditions, not being race ready ( from the night before ), let's be honest here the Great Britain Senior Team lost the Second and Third Tests by two points against a majority Junior Test Squad , matches that they should have won nothing to do with refereeing, I will admit that their was some refereeing mistakes but they affected both teams, I'm not arrogant enough to believe all in Australia is right or to believe that the only good referees are British and I do not have an agenda to push like some of the visiting tourist.  And that is my opinion for what is worth

PS. The riders seem to be getting on all right off the track which is pleasing to see

Junior Test Match No.2 Australia vs Great Britain at LeFevre

Young Lions settle their nerves but....   By Trevor Dutton

A bright sunny day at the LeFevre track saw a Test Match 2 up first for the Juniors, Great Britain ran the same team, Team Manager Lee Aris put faith in his young charges that they would overcome their nerves from match1. Aussie Team Manager Mick Harley made one change putting in Bobbie McMillan for Daniel Bax, I believe this is a rotational change by Mick Harley, Daniel's solid 13 points in Test Match1 would have kept him in. The riders put in top effort and it was a good improvement from the young Lions, the nerves were gone and their work rate went up but it did not match the score sheet, try as they might the Aussies consistency on the track prevailed. I must admit that I enjoyed the racing in this match compared to the first , Joel , Robert and Matt for the Aussies stepped up a notch not that they didn't do their job in the first match but it is nice to see riders show their skills. For the GB's Lee Smith stood up and without 3 exclusions from the first match he show why he will need watching later in the Tour, Tom Reed again put in a solid performance and will be another to watch but consistency is what the GB Team needs. Will the Team Manager Lee Aris  make a change for tomorrow at Salisbury, time will tell but let us remember they are young Lions.

Senior Test Match No.2 Australia vs Great Britain at LeFevre

Senior Lions falter two nil By Trevor Dutton

First we had Y2 , then the oil crisis then the financial meltdown now we have the Senior Great Britain team losing two Test Matches in a row, believe me that is not normal. The Aussie Team Manager Robert Fleming makes one change bringing in Ryan Edson for Bradd Hoppo but kept the riders in their positions so not disrupting greatly the winning combinations on the track. The GB Team Manager Dave Murphy  brings in Mark Winwood for Louis Osbourne and alters his line up changing on track combinations from Test Match 1. The racing was again better in this Test with tight fast racing in the first half with 1 point in it at the break. ( heat 9 Aussies 45pts to GB 44 pts ) In the second half it  went back and forth between 1 and 2 points with GB leading after heat 13 then Daniel Pike was excluded for movement at the gate in heat 14 ( he did move his head ) this I believe was GB's lost opportunity to gain a upper hand from then on the Aussies just when for even points. The Great Britain Team had its chances to win this match and I will not except that the Referee lost it for them, each team had two exclusions right or wrong makes no difference.... This match was won and lost in the riders' head ( minds )

Many people (  riders & spectators ) are looking to blame someone, they start with the referee, I heard talk that not many riders going to Poland to race because of the Referees' bias and this may happen to Australia. Well all I can say is with the attitude of some spectators and riders with their personal insults and accusations of  bias ( another word for cheating ) to Referees maybe the time will come went their will be noone wanting to referee and riders themselves will have man the centre green,.. I'll love to see that. After they finish with the Referee then they  move on to the GB Team Manager Dave Murphy, asking questions ... Why change the team, when they only lose by 13 points with 4 exclusions in the first Test ? ( I must admit the team change surprised me ) . If you look at it with a open mind you will see personal agendas that will bias peoples'opinion on certain matters within the sport.

My opinion for what its worth.. The talk about bias or bad refereeing and team selection is only loudly proclaimed regarding the Senior GB Matches not the Junior GB matches ( not as much ) Why? Well the expectations are not great for the Junior GB Team which is a shame ( this is coming from the visitors ) and high expectations on the Senior GB Team with two loses has brought out a blame game which is a shame . Win or Lose you should always have sportsmanship.
